Reshaped, Reborn

Info

For nearly 30 years, the beauty chain ELLEHUIS has grown out of Lingnan, and both its philosophy and its idea of beauty are deeply rooted in the region. For its new salon, E Studio brings everyday beauty care and medical aesthetics under one roof, setting out to reshape what a beauty experience can be.

Influences: Kintsugi

The design language draws on what medical aesthetics is about: repair and renewal. Science holds back time and mends the marks it leaves. That led us to kintsugi, the traditional art of mending vessels with gold, which lets beautiful things be reborn and bloom again.

With repair as our metaphor, continuous flowing curves shape the new ELLEHUIS salon on site.

Explore More

Every exploration begins with a reflection of yourself. Mirrored stainless steel lightly frees the space from the limits of its floor area and opens up the view. Step inside and you walk on the floor and through the mirror at once: a reflection, and another side of you.

A pure space, like an empty home, can hold many kinds of beauty. Step by step, continuous curves taken from the lines of kintsugi unfold, until they interweave into a winding plan that seems to go on and on. Here, every turn and every glance back reveals a new view.

The flowing lines of kintsugi speak of repair. Brought up to the medical aesthetics floor, they become one continuous spatial curve that leads visitors on to discover the ELLEHUIS code of beauty.

Touches of deep, quiet forest green appear like the small surprises of a journey. Here a reception room is more than a reception room: it keeps the bright new thoughts that come while exploring, and helps you reach a deeper self. Stories told, remembered and shared take on deeper meaning.

Epidermis

Design should look beyond the site and respond to the building and its surroundings, so the facade mattered too. Its flowing pattern comes from xiangyunsha, the signature silk of Lingnan. Hung outside the building like a vast curtain slowly drawn open, its shimmer drifts with the light and draws explorers in. This local touch makes the journey all the more intriguing.

Design that returns to its place is bound to run deep.
