Hidden in Nature, a Landscape of Its Own
E Studio has worked closely with DJI on technology retail spaces for two years. This article looks at one example: the store at Happy Coast in Shunde, Foshan.
DJI chose Happy Coast Plus, the busiest commercial centre in Shunde, for its retail experience store.
The building answers its regular site with a simple polygon wrapped in large panes of ultra-clear glass. The store seems to recede into nature, or to become the landscape itself, opening the widest possible views to the surrounding block, while its futuristic form gives Happy Coast a distinctive image.

The design keeps as much of the existing building as possible. Its irregular pitched roof was a real difficulty and a balance was hard to find, so, with the store's overall atmosphere in mind, the ceiling was treated as a series of folds and fitted in places with a stretched-membrane system. Diffused through the white membrane, the light imitates even, clear daylight.

The upper floor is designed as one open space. A partial double-height void strengthens the link between the two floors and makes the whole store feel more transparent. It includes a multi-purpose workshop area for salons and small classes that also serves as a place for customers to meet and rest, surrounded by accessory and boutique display cabinets.

On display are consumer products such as the Mavic and Osmo series, each with a full set of compatible accessories, alongside largely professional-grade equipment. In form and in complexity alike, they show DJI's technology and give customers a different kind of experience.
