The human ability to capture scent is innate. But when that becomes your work, what kind of place should it happen in? After an experiment that broke with conventional ideas, E Studio conceived the new headquarters of DearIrean, one of China's leading fragrance lifestyle brands, as a space for experience, living, work and leisure all at once.

Every hurried figure leaves a trace here

Hurried steps come gently to rest on reaching the DearIrean lift lobby; skirts settle, the corner of a jacket falls back into place, and no one can miss the romance of the setting. A corner of flowers and softly spilling light form a mysterious forest, and fragrance fills the space, wrapping everyone close.

Fleeting inspiration finds its echo here

Scent is hard to pin down: only by engaging every sense does the pleasure of the chase begin. The huge curved meeting table at the centre offers that moment of freedom. Its curves sweep out from a single point and reach far, like every clash of creative ideas: sharp at first, but with a long resonance.

Unlike the wall-bound layout of a conventional office, it signals a meeting room freed from cold, purely rational constraints: one that makes room for creative feeling while still serving everyone through careful, rational making.

The bustle you might expect may never happen here, because what we designed is not a workplace but a healing retreat full of fragrance. Step inside and the soft colours slow you down first; then light, hidden or revealed, quietly arrives. You can rest on a warm fabric sofa or enjoy a tasting at the bar behind you. Holding meetings or trying products here feels equally natural.

Here we used many different means to create a quiet atmosphere wrapped in light, where an almost dreamlike glowing surface plays against clear, airy glass.

As night falls, the space grows ethereal, like stepping into a hidden fairyland. The curve overhead gently holds the floating light and gives its glow a visible form.

This is the scent bar, but it is about more than smelling: we also wanted scent to be seen. A dense, orderly display and metal and stone of the finest feel and touch engage everyone's sight, hearing and smell.

Come closer, and an elusive fragrance wraps around you, settling into the senses and into the fibres of your clothes.

In this space, work and life are simply everyday life. The fragrance that lingers here distils that everyday once more, inviting us to listen to life's quiet murmur and to find nature and stillness again.
