Multi-layered Dreams

CLINSKIN, a premium skincare clinic devoted to anti-ageing technology, has opened its first concept flagship at MixC World in Nanshan, Shenzhen. Exploring the future of beauty technology together with E Studio, the brand builds a pure, ethereal utopia around the idea of multi-layered dreams.

The Content of Dreams

In The Interpretation of Dreams, Freud describes the dream as a true conversation with oneself. Dreams serve the ego: they release and express the impulses of the unconscious and so restore the mind's harmony. A dream is another life, lived closely with ourselves.

CLINSKIN sets out to open a door to a dream in the noisy city, a journey of the mind where body and soul can catch their breath.

Space Image & Interior

The Initial Dream: White

A dream is self-awareness magnified without limit, ruled by the id. At first there is nothing: the id at the centre, surrounded by endless void, and the void's reflection is a strange, shifting white. We wanted to build this pure dream as a real place, perhaps the dream's original face, the place where it all begins.

Reception Area

Step inside and a vast white surface, rippling under waves of light, looks as dewy and flawless as new skin. It leaves endless room for the imagination and lets the mind slowly drift away from reality. This strange, shifting white releases the dreamer's emotions and lets the unconscious wander, so the mind floats lightly.

Make-up Area

In a compact plan, a misty white acrylic screen brings the consultation desk and the make-up area together, dividing the space simply and clearly. A slowly flowing curtain of light feels calm and gives soft light at the mirror.

Waiting Area

The ceiling curves upwards to let in a sliver of "daylight", and the generous empty space leaves room for the imagination. Grey sets the tone throughout, and a crescent-shaped leather bench wraps around the square room like an embrace, a quiet promise of shelter.

Misty, translucent, weightless materials recast the stereotype of beauty technology. Anti-ageing technology is precise control over the passing of time: gentle and rational, never a violent reversal.

VIP Room A

Multi-layered Dreams

The dream within a dream goes back to the Zhuangzi. A dreamer, woken by something in the dream, realises they were dreaming, without knowing they are still inside another dream. Woken again and again, once, twice or many times, only at last do they truly wake.

What we see in dreams is hard to describe; its images are strange, yet within the dream they exist and seem perfectly reasonable. Here, sharp-edged circles overlap, repeat and contradict one another, and with a soft halo of light they make a small room seem to float.

VIP Room B: Cocooning

Each room is imagined as one layer of the dream, offering the dreamer a glimpse of reality inside an illusion. Broad walls of velvet and a curved ceiling form a soft cocoon, a shelter from the passing of time whose stillness brings body and mind back to calm.

The brand upgrade rests on a precise picture of its audience. Today's urban women have their own taste and make their own choices; they don't follow trends or chase flashy surface effects. They want skincare that is professional, attentive, efficient and uncompromising, so the experience stresses what is unique and distinctive, offering an advanced level of professional beauty care.

CLINSKIN holds to one idea: do one thing, and take anti-ageing skin technology as far as it can go.

As women's spending on beauty technology booms and the business changes at speed, brands keep looking for new markets and directions. This project is a fresh attempt by E Studio and CLINSKIN to explore the limits and possibilities of the industry.
